Quantitative Scientist, Learning Healthcare Platforms

Flatiron Health has built a unified data set that is unparalleled in its depth and accuracy, and gives our partners the capability to ask and answer questions about cancer research that were not answerable before.

We are looking for a team member who is excited to make an immediate impact in a critical space. This position requires outstanding problem-solving, analytical and communication skills; experience with multitasking and prioritizing; and the tenacity to execute against deliverables in a timely, high-quality fashion. You will collaborate with a team of oncologists, product managers, software engineers and other quantitative scientists to develop methods, tools and processes to assess, monitor and improve the quality of our data products.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work with a cross-functional team to develop, define and clarify new metrics of data quality standards
  • Become a power user of our current data quality frameworks and provide ideas for improvements
  • Contribute to the strategic and analytical data quality roadmap
  • Design quick experiments to incubate new ideas and methodologies around the quality of our data
  • Serve as a bridge between the team responsible for data acquisition and the team responsible for deriving insights of our data

About You

  • 4-8 years of relevant experience
  • Master’s degree preferred, in quantitative fields such as statistics
  • Experience with data quality, statistical quality control or curation of research-grade data
  • Expertise in statistics
  • Willingness to work on a wide range of projects and requests
  • Extremely detail-oriented, while maintaining big-picture goals
  • Skilled at gracefully managing up, down, and across
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate at multiple levels of technical and clinical expertise
  • Intellectually curious, with outstanding problem-solving skills
  • Passionate about our mission to improve healthcare through technology
  • Excited with hands-on work to design and prototype models, and to implement methodologies
  • Comfort with or desire to learn R, Python and SQL
  • Ability to work independently, with limited guidance
  • Thrives in highly uncertain situations and enjoy coming up with elegant and innovative solutions to challenging problems

Bonus points

  • Six Sigma Black Belt

An Insider's view of Flatiron Health

What kinds of technical challenges do you and your team face?

An engineer and oncologist work together over several weeks to build an algorithm from a naive prototype to a highly specialized and flexible rule set that can accurately represent the lines of therapy for 95% of patients within a specific disease subset.

Abhishek

Software Engineer

How does the company support your career growth?

As engineering manager, I am invested in the professional development of the people I work with. I train team members by pulling them out of their comfort zones to the uncomfortable territory. At Flatiron, it is one of our values - greatness and comfort rarely co-exist.

Kevin

Software Engineer

What is your vision for the company?

At Flatiron, we believe that learning from the experience of every cancer patient is an imperative — it is the key to accelerating research and continuing to improve the quality of care. Our mission is to serve cancer patients and our customers by dramatically improving treatment and accelerating research.

Zach Weinberg

Co-Founder, President and COO

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

Instead of studying the cells, I now have the opportunity to write about the patients. I can tell their stories through the research lens and enable them to advance clinical cancer research through their experiences. I certainly never lose sight of the human behind the cell anymore.
