Updater’s Data Team is an independent function that takes a strategic approach to ensuring the business is leveraging data across all units to drastically improve business outcomes. What You’ll Do
As the Director of Data Engineering at Updater, you will own Updater’s Data Platform, which powers all major operational and analytical functions. On a day-to-day basis, you will continue to build out our centralized data lake & data warehousing solution (our stack includes Fivetran/Snowflake/Airflow!), build services to provide data to our production applications and testing platforms, supply our business partners with insights about their performance on the platform, and guide the strategy, documentation, permissions, and roles for the evolving data platform. You’ll collaborate with Engineering on ensuring data capture for new product initiatives, with our business partners across all major functions at the organization to anticipate data needs and structure, and work very closely with our Analytics/Data Science side of the Data Team to proactively develop high-leverage data solutions to address the toughest business problems.
What You’ll Have
You’re a hands-on leader in data engineering who has extensive experience architecting and leading data engineering and data warehousing initiatives. An ability and desire to interact and communicate effectively with both technology and business team members is critical to the success of this position. We’re looking for someone with:
- Humility and a sense of humor
- Strong communication skills, deep levels of empathy, and a keen eye for innovation and pragmatism
- 5+ years experience designing, building, launching, and maintaining extremely efficient & reliable data pipelines & data models as part of a Data Warehouse solution
- 2+ years managing or mentoring teams of engineers
- Expert Python & SQL skills
- Experience with modern BI tools (Looker, Domo, Tableau, etc)
- Ability to manage full project lifecycles
- Experience working closely with Engineering, Product, and Analytics/Data Science teams
- Experience with modern ETL tools (Fivetran, Stitch, Alooma, etc)
- Experience with modern DWH environments (Snowflake, BigQuery, AWS Redshift and S3, etc)
- Experience with workflow management tools (Airflow, Luigi, etc)
- Experience with streaming data services (Kafka, Kinesis Firehose, etc)
