Assistant Editor, Multimedia
The Multimedia Assistant Editor will be the first role of its kind at Newsela. You will source, edit and create images, working closely with freelancers and staff members on the Content Team to beautify the stories we run each week. As the Assistant Editor of Multimedia, you will lead the charge in organizing, simplifying and innovating our multimedia offerings including (but not limited to): science graphics, statistical charts, fiction illustrations, news interactives, historical timelines, infographics, informative videos and more.
Why You’ll Love This Role
This is a position with room for tons of growth and innovation if you have ideas and the patience and strong will to advocate for them. You deeply care about giving students the best content you can offer them and believe that all students need access to engaging digital content. You’ll be at the center of a rapidly growing company that is changing the way content is offered in classrooms.
Why We’ll Love You
You’ve got an eye for aesthetics. An imageless or poorly designed article experience would drive you crazy. You are a dogged researcher and can dig up any image. Beyond that, you have a solid understanding of how rights and permissions work with public domain art and photos, maximizing for what’s available for free. You are organized and can think of ways to simplify processes so as not to redo work. You’ve got a future-thinking mindset and are always trying to think of new and creative ways to display information.
